On Friday evening, shortly before 10:00 p.m., police in Elgin were informed of a five-car collision near the intersection of Seneca Street and Spring Street. According to witnesses, an SUV traveling at a high rate of speed ran a stop sign and collided with a second vehicle in the intersection. The SUV then collided with a car that had just parked nearby while the second vehicle struck two parked cars.

The parked car that was hit by the SUV had five people inside, two adults and three children in the backseat. One of the children was a baby who was restrained in a car seat. The vehicle began to smoke after the crash and witnesses ran to assist, pulling the children one-by-one from the rear seat and helping the adults as well. Emergency crews responded to the scene and transported all five of those injured victims to area hospitals for treatment.

The second vehicle, the one initially struck by the SUV, had only a driver inside. That individual was also hurt in the crash and also was taken to a hospital for treatment.

Witnesses reported two men fleeing on foot from the inside of the SUV, including the driver, who was unavailable to speak with police as a result. Authorities are still looking for those men and anyone with information is asked to call the Elgin Police Department.

Around 3:30 a.m. on Thursday morning, a man in his late 30s or early 40s was operating his vehicle southbound on the Dan Ryan Expressway near 87th Street when his vehicle collided with a second car in the area. That initial impact caused the driver of the first vehicle to lose control and sent his vehicle off the road’s surface and into a nearby wall, leaving the man with critical injuries. Chicago’s many neighborhood unfortunately experience car accidents on a regular basis with no one area being spared the devastation caused by these events. On Sunday at approximately 2:0 p.m., two cars collided in the Back of the Yards neighborhood and the resulting crash claimed the life of one of the drivers.

Police have reported that a 59-year-old man was behind the wheel of a parked vehicle on Ashland Avenue when he decided to attempt a U-turn. Reportedly, that man pulled out into oncoming traffic and placed his vehicle into the path of an oncoming car. The two vehicles collided and the 59-year-old driver of the first car was killed as a result.

In the first vehicle was a 51-year-old male passenger. He survived the crash and was transported by ambulance to an area hospital where he received treatment for injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening. Four people were inside the second car at the time of the crash but it did not appear that any of them were injured to any serious degree.

Police in Lemont confirmed that a two car accident happened on Friday and that an elderly passenger lost her life as a result. The crash happened near the intersection of Archer Avenue and 107th Street prior to 3:00 p.m. and may have begun when a vehicle crossed the center line of the road. Police have stated that the first vehicle then collided with a second in a head-on impact and that the drivers of both cars were injured. Ambulances responded to the scene and evaluated all victims. In addition to the drivers, an elderly passenger in the second vehicle was hurt and was also taken to a hospital; that 94-year-old woman succumbed to her injuries shortly after the crash.

Both of the drivers survived the crash and are expected to recover though the nature of their injuries has not been disclosed.
