Winter Is Coming – Again – To Chicago

If you enjoy sunny skies and warm temperatures, you may want to go into hiding tomorrow and remain indoors through Thursday. Meteorologists have reported a winter storm coming to Chicago which is expected to bring snow showers and moderate winds, possibly leading to traffic issues and other hassles among commuters in Illinois and those who have to leave their homes.

The good news is that this storm is expected to leave approximately one to three inches in the downtown area, enough to inconvenience the city but not enough to bring it screeching to a halt. The bad news is that even this small amount will significantly increase the possibility of car accidents, pedestrian accidents, and bicycle accidents taking place and will raise the odds that people will be hurt as a result.

If you will be outside tomorrow, make sure you are prepared for a variety of weather conditions as there is expected to be a shift during the day. Early commuters may be lucky enough to see dry roads but later in the morning, snow will begin falling and will become steady by afternoon. Winds will be gusty before the evening commute occurs with gusts ranging from 25 to 35 miles per hour and these conditions will continue through Thursday morning.

The snow could lead to icy conditions on roadways and the blowing wind is expected to limit visibility, so motorists are urged to use extra caution while driving. Be cognizant of the fact that the roads may be clear and dry in one spot but snowy and/or icy just a mile away, meaning that you should be alert and ready to alter your driving habits at any moment. It will be a good idea to drive a little slower than normal, leave extra distance between your car and others nearby, and to use your headlights even in the daytime so that you will be more visible while driving.

Also, while one to three inches is estimated in most of the Chicago area, some spots could see upwards of six inches so be prepared for conditions that may be worse than anticipated.
