It is an unfortunate fact of life in America that the majority of adult drivers have been in at least one car accident during their lifetimes. While some are fortunate to avoid a collision during their driving careers, many more are subjected to multiple crashes with the average driver being involved in three accidents over the course of his or her life.
These accidents affect young drivers, old drivers, drivers with little experience, professional motorists, those who live in Chicago, those who live in suburban areas, those who commute by car daily, and those who rarely drive. In short, anyone can become the victim of a car accident when driving in Illinois and therefore anyone can be injured in a traffic incident on any day.
With the constant threat of harm hanging over the shoulders of those who take to the roads, safety should be a top concern for everyone to discuss on a regular basis. But unfortunately, safety is often only discussed after an incident happens and after someone has been hurt.
Tragically, police in Lake County have confirmed that a collision proved to be fatal on Saturday and that others were hurt in the crash, though the details surrounding the incident are not yet clear. At this time, it appears that a vehicle traveling southbound attempted a left-hand turn from Route 45 onto Grand Avenue in Lindenhurst. At the same time, a second vehicle traveling northbound entered the intersection and collided with the southbound car, causing both drivers to lose control of their vehicles and sending the cars a significant distance from the point of impact.
Two people in the turning vehicle, an adult and a teenager, lost their lives due to the injuries they sustained while three other people between the two vehicles were injured. All the victims were transported to area hospitals for treatment where their conditions are not clear at this time, though authorities anticipate the three survivors to make recoveries.
