A rear-end car accident is one of the most common types of collisions that occur in the Chicago area. Often blamed on an inattentive driver or a motorist who travels too fast for conditions, a typical rear-ender may happen at a stop light or a stop sign where one vehicle is at a standstill and the vehicle behind fails to stop in time. But those are far from the only forms that a rear-end accident may take. When traffic turns from expressway speeds to stop-and-go, rear-end accidents are likely. In wintertime when snow and/or ice are present on the roadways, it can lead to countless rear-end crashes. Numerous rear-enders happen in parking lots across Chicago every week.
Yet despite the scenario that leads to and causes a rear-end car accident, the results can be quite similar: injuries can happen and can cause victims to need medical treatment. Some rear-end collisions are extreme enough to cause the death of one or more individuals involved.
Becoming a victim of a car accident can be a life-altering event that can harm a victim’s body, mind, and wallet. Not only are these people forced to endure the pain and suffering that comes with their injuries but they might incur thousands of dollars in medical expenses and their injuries may never fully heal. Without the mistakes that another driver makes, these crashes would never occur and victims would never be forced to suffer. That is why local and state laws allow Chicago accident victims to bring a civil claim for their losses against a responsible driver and/or an insurance company so that compensation can be obtained to cover the full extent of the damages that result from a crash. If you have been involved in a collision, speaking with a personal injury attorney may help you realize your legal options and whether you are entitled to monetary payment for your losses.
Tuesday afternoon saw a serious rear-end car accident in Gurnee that required two victims to be removed from a vehicle after they became trapped by the crash. Police responded to the scene near Route 120 and Hunt Club Road where they were able to determine that a box truck, raveling behind a passenger car, failed to stop for a red light and collided with the rear of the passenger car with significant force. The resulting impact caused heavy damage to both vehicles and the driver and passenger of the car were trapped inside, leading rescue crews to use machinery to extract both victims. Both individuals inside the car were injured but expected to survive after receiving treatment at an area hospital.
The driver of the truck sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene. It is not clear what caused him to strike the car at this time.
If you have been involved in a car accident or a rear-end collision in the Chicago area, you may be entitled to financial compensation for the injuries you sustained. But to receive this payment, you must take affirmative action within the time period specified by law or your rights will be lost forever.
